Clay Guida and Gray Maynard are set to return to the Octagon against on another in the main event of UFC on FX 4 on June 22 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The five-round affair will be the first trip back inside the cage for both fighters since suffering losses to Benson Henderson and Frankie Edgar respectively.
Both men will be looking to re-establish their position in the ever-fluid lightweight division. Guida had rattled off four consecutive victories to climb into contention before being derailed by the current champion in November on the undercard of the inaugural FOX event in Anaheim. The wildly popular Guida gets a chance to get right back into the thick of things with a win over the two-time title challenger, and potentially position himself ahead of fellow contender Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, whom he beat last June.
For Maynard, this is not only a return to action, but also the first trip into the cage since his split from Xtreme Couture. “The Bully” left the Las Vegas outfit following his UFC 136 loss to Frankie Edgar, traveling to Brazil to work with Jose Aldo and the team at Nova Uniao prior to Aldo’s bout with Chad Mendes at UFC 142, while doing the majority of his training in San Jose with the group at American Kickboxing Academy.
